Villeneuve noted that the bond formed during the promotional campaign for the first film laid the groundwork for their deeper connection in the sequel. He stated, "Their relationship became, let's say, a deeper meaning - they're close friends. And for me, it's a tremendous help." Villeneuve also praised Austin Butler's performance as the villain Feyd-Rautha, describing his portrayal as a blend of charisma and menace. The director revealed that Butler underwent extensive rehearsals to embody the character's dangerous energy.
