Lough Kinale Boek-Schrijn: 9e-eeuwse Ierse schat tentoongesteld na decennia van conservatie

Het National Museum of Ireland toont het Lough Kinale Object, een belangrijke 9e-eeuwse Ierse boek-schrijn, als middelpunt van de tentoonstelling 'Words on the Wave'. De tentoonstelling is geopend op 30 mei 2025 en loopt tot 24 oktober 2025. Het belicht de belangrijke culturele bijdragen van Ierland aan het vroegmiddeleeuwse Europa.

Dit artefact, ontdekt in 1986 in Lough Kinale, County Longford, is een van de slechts acht overgebleven Ierse decoratieve containers voor heilige manuscripten. De uitzonderlijke bewaring stelt kijkers in staat om ingewikkelde details te waarderen, waaronder een kruis, medaillons en slangenkop-scharnieren.

Na 39 jaar van nauwgezette conservatie is dit opmerkelijke stuk Iers erfgoed nu toegankelijk voor het publiek. De tentoonstelling 'Words on the Wave' toont 17 middeleeuwse manuscripten en meer dan 100 artefacten, en biedt een uitgebreid inzicht in de culturele invloed van Ierland tijdens de Middeleeuwen.
