Waymo to Launch Robotaxi Service in Miami by 2026

Waymo has announced its expansion into Miami, Florida, marking a significant milestone in its robotaxi service growth in the United States. The company plans to begin testing fully electric Jaguar I-PACE vehicles in 2025, with a commercial launch set for 2026.

This initiative aims to transform urban transportation in Miami, positioning the city as a leader in sustainable mobility. Waymo's gradual rollout will start with human drivers, ensuring safety while collecting data on the urban environment.

Waymo's vehicles will feature advanced autonomous driving technology, equipped with sensors and AI systems to detect pedestrians and cyclists in real-time. The service is designed to provide a safer, more efficient alternative to traditional car travel, reducing reliance on personal vehicles and lowering emissions.

The expansion follows successful operations in cities like Phoenix, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, where Waymo handles over 150,000 paid rides weekly through its Waymo One app. The company has partnered with Moove for fleet management and infrastructure support, beginning in Phoenix in early 2025 before moving to Miami.

Waymo's entry into Miami occurs amid challenges faced by competitors in the autonomous vehicle market, notably Cruise, which recently suspended operations after an accident. In contrast, Waymo has maintained a strong safety record and secured $5.6 billion in funding.
