Trump's Funding Plan Rejected by GOP Ahead of Shutdown Deadline

Washington, December 20, 2024 - The Republican-led House voted against a temporary funding plan supported by President-elect Donald Trump, just over 24 hours before a potential government shutdown. The bill failed with a vote of 235 to 174, as 38 Republicans defied Trump and key adviser Elon Musk, who had pressured lawmakers to abandon a previous bipartisan agreement.

Trump demanded the inclusion of a provision to waive or raise the federal debt limit prior to his inauguration. The proposed spending package, which aimed to suspend the debt ceiling for two years, was rejected with nearly all Democrats opposing it.
