Tesla's Optimus Robot Demonstration Raises Questions About Human Control

Los Angeles, October 10, 2024 – At the Cybercab event, Tesla CEO Elon Musk showcased the Tesla Optimus Robot, impressing many attendees. However, reports indicate that the humanoid prototypes were being remotely controlled by humans rather than functioning autonomously.

According to Bloomberg, employees managed interactions between the robots and attendees during the 'We, Robot' session. While the robots demonstrated AI capabilities such as walking, their overall performance relied on human oversight.

Musk claimed these robots could become 'the biggest ever of any kind,' with a projected price range of $20,000 to $30,000 each, positioning them as potential household helpers.

Attendees, including Nancy Tengler, CEO of Laffer Tengler Investments, expressed enthusiasm for Optimus, noting its human-like movements. Wedbush analyst Dan Ives described the event as a 'glimpse of the future,' suggesting that the reality of human-mimicking robots is closer than previously believed.

Gene Munster, managing partner of Deepwater Asset Management, also acknowledged the controlled nature of the demonstration, admitting he felt 'fooled' during the event.
