Birmingham Airport's Comfort Dogs Bring Joy to Travelers

Traveling can be a fun and enjoyable experience, but it often brings stress and anxiety. To help ease these feelings, the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport has launched the Traveler Loving Canines (TLC) Comfort Dog program.

This program features a team of 10 certified dogs, including therapy and retired racing dogs. These friendly, cuddly companions add a calming presence to the travel experience, especially during the busy holiday season.

Airport representatives highlight the benefits of having these loveable dogs around, stating, 'We know that dogs can make everything better.' The volunteers and their furry friends are dedicated to bringing comfort to travelers.

The TLC teams are trained and certified through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. They interact with passengers who are open to the experience, helping to reduce stress and anxiety in various situations.

At Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, therapy dogs roam the terminal, providing a delightful distraction. Travelers are encouraged to pet the dogs, which can give a much-needed serotonin boost.

The TLC program was introduced in Birmingham in November 2022, and it continues to make a positive impact on travelers.
