Google has announced a $13 million investment in FireSat, a satellite constellation designed to improve wildfire detection through artificial intelligence (AI). This initiative aims to deploy over 50 satellites equipped with custom infrared sensors to identify wildfires as small as 5 by 5 meters, enabling early detection and more effective response efforts. The first satellite is scheduled for launch in early 2025, with the full constellation expected to be operational in the following years. This project is a collaboration between Google Research, the Earth Fire Alliance, and other partners, marking a significant advancement in global wildfire monitoring and management.
