James Webb Telescope Reveals Ancient Galaxy, Suggesting Universe is Older Than Expected

Recent findings from the James Webb Space Telescope indicate that the universe may be older than the previously estimated 13.8 billion years. The discovery of the galaxy JADES-GS-z14-0, located 33.6 million light-years away, suggests that it formed just 300 million years after the Big Bang, a much shorter timeframe than previously believed.

Eric Jiménez Andrade from UNAM highlights that JADES-GS-z14-0 formed in under 280 million years, challenging the notion that galaxy formation took significantly longer post-Big Bang. This raises questions about the true age of the universe, with some researchers proposing it could be as much as 26.7 billion years old based on observations of early galaxies.

Additionally, the presence of oxygen in JADES-GS-z14-0, found in young stars and ionized regions, indicates a more advanced evolutionary stage than previously thought, as early universe conditions were believed to consist mainly of helium and hydrogen.
