Mérida Launches Green Corridors Initiative to Boost Urban Biodiversity and Quality of Life

In a significant move towards enhancing urban biodiversity and improving the quality of life for its residents, the Mérida City Council, led by Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada, has announced the creation of extensive green corridors throughout the city.

This initiative aims to integrate natural and sustainable elements into the urban landscape, with plans to enhance parks, cycle paths, and walkways. The mayor emphasized that these green spaces will not only lower temperatures in the city but also improve air quality and provide habitats for local fauna.

The council is set to implement programs such as 'A family, one tree' and 'Aerial pots' to promote tree planting and environmental education among citizens. With over 700 parks and a significant ecological reserve, Mérida is poised to become a model for urban sustainability.

Mayor Patrón highlighted the importance of community involvement in this initiative, stating that every citizen can contribute by planting trees at home and that local companies are encouraged to create green spaces in their facilities. This collaborative approach aims to make Mérida the greenest city in the region.
