Biodiversity Initiative Launched in France to Catalog Flora and Fauna

On September 19, 2024, a significant workshop was held at the town hall of Bessines, France, aimed at raising awareness about local flora and fauna. Organized by project leaders Adélaïde Carcin and Damien Marie from the Marais Poitevin Regional Natural Park, this initiative is part of a broader effort to catalog biodiversity in the region.

Bessines has been selected among ten municipalities to compile a biodiversity atlas over a three-year period. The project seeks to engage local residents in discussions about the meaning of 'biodiversity' and its implications for the environment. Participants were encouraged to share their insights and concerns, fostering a community-driven approach to conservation.

The park collaborates with various stakeholders, including the Deux-Sèvres Nature Environment association, farmers, and hunters, all committed to environmental protection. An inventory of local species will be conducted, and additional workshops and nature outings are planned for those interested in contributing to this vital cause.
