Elon Musk has unveiled ambitious plans to mass-produce 500,000 units of the Optimus humanoid robot by 2027, declaring it the "biggest product in history." Speaking in an online interview on X, Musk suggested that humanoid robots could eventually outnumber humans at a ratio of 5:1, potentially leading to 30 billion autonomous robots worldwide.

Tesla aims to produce between 50,000 and 100,000 Optimus robots in 2026, ramping up to 500,000 to 1 million units by 2027. This shift in focus comes after a meeting with TSMC's Chairman, CC Wei, where Musk outlined a strategy to pivot Tesla's emphasis from vehicles to humanoid artificial intelligence.

The current Optimus model is powered by Tesla's AI4 chip, while the commercial version will likely utilize the upcoming AI5 chip, enhancing its capabilities for various tasks. Despite challenges in the automotive sector, Musk's push for the Optimus robot aims to secure Tesla's future and reignite investor interest amid increasing competition.
