Treasure Island Recovers Post-Hurricanes

Treasure Island, FL - Following the devastation caused by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, city officials have reported significant progress in debris removal as of November 14, 2024. Crews utilized a large parking lot and a nearby park to manage the extensive debris left in the wake of the storms.

Initial estimates indicated that the debris pile reached approximately 50 feet in height and spread across 150 feet. However, video footage from the city confirmed that by mid-November, the debris had been completely cleared from the streets.

City officials emphasized that debris management was a priority in the aftermath of the hurricanes. They stated on social media, “Recognizing the safety and health risks posed by storm debris, the city quickly responded to the needs of our community by securing additional debris management contractors to expedite the cleanup process.”

Typically, cleanup operations in Florida following a major hurricane can extend over several months. However, officials noted that the swift removal of nearly all storm debris within just over a month reflects the commitment of city staff to restore normalcy to Treasure Island.
