Michelle Obama Addresses Divorce Rumors: 'Choices Are For Me Now'

Michelle Obama recently addressed rumors of a potential divorce from Barack Obama, attributing the speculation to her newfound independence and personal choices. In an episode of Sophia Bush's podcast, Work in Progress, the former First Lady explained that her life post-White House has allowed her to prioritize her own desires for the first time.

"It is whatever I want, Sophia, It's whatever I want," Michelle responded. "It's the first time in my life all of my choices are for me."

She noted that her previous roles as a mother and First Lady often limited her decision-making, leading to a sense of delayed personal freedom. This shift, combined with public scrutiny, fueled rumors about her marriage. "That's the thing that we as women struggle with -- disappointing people. I mean, so much so that this year people couldn't even fathom that I was making a choice for myself. That they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing."

Barack Obama also recently commented on their marriage, jokingly stating he was "in a deep deficit with my wife" after his presidency and has been trying to make up for it. Despite the rumors, the Obamas appear to be enjoying their time together, including watching lighthearted TV shows, although they sometimes disagree on viewing preferences.
