India Breaks Into Top 100 in SDG Index

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

India has achieved a significant milestone by entering the top 100 in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Index for the first time. The 2025 report, released on June 24, places India at 99th out of 193 countries, with a score of 67.

This advancement reflects India's ongoing efforts to meet the 17 SDGs adopted by UN member states in 2015. These goals aim to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all by 2030. India has improved its position from 109th in 2024, 112th in 2023, and 121st in 2022.

India's progress is attributed to improvements in poverty reduction, healthcare, clean energy, and climate action. Government schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Swachh Bharat Mission, and Jal Jeevan Mission have supported these advancements. Despite these gains, challenges remain in food security, gender equality, and climate action.

The SDG Index highlights that only 17% of global SDG targets are on track to be achieved by 2030. This underscores the need for continued efforts to address these issues. India's entry into the top 100 underscores its commitment to sustainable development.
