Ghana's Police Council Gets First Female Chair

On June 10, 2025, Ghana witnessed a historic moment as Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the first female Vice President, assumed the role of Chairperson of the Police Council.

This appointment marks another significant achievement for Professor Opoku-Agyemang, solidifying her place in Ghanaian history. The Police Council advises the President on internal security policies.

The Council's responsibilities include budgeting, administration, and the promotion of police officers. The inauguration, led by President John Dramani Mahama, also saw the appointment of several key members.

Key members of the committee include Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, Minister for the Interior, and COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Inspector General of Police. Other members include Edward Korbly Doe Adjaho, former Speaker of Parliament, and Sophia Akuffo, former Chief Justice.

This event is expected to bring new perspectives to the Council. It is also expected to influence policy-making related to internal security in Ghana.
