The Trump administration is considering reducing U.S. troop presence in South Korea. Defense officials familiar with the discussions reported this to The Wall Street Journal on Thursday. The Pentagon is developing an option to relocate approximately 4,500 service members. They would be moved to other areas within the Indo-Pacific region, including Guam. Since his first term, President Trump has considered altering the U.S. military presence in South Korea. Currently, the U.S. maintains around 28,500 troops there. This strategy is being drafted for Trump's review as part of an informal assessment of North Korea policy. The plan has not yet been presented to Trump. It represents one of several options under consideration by senior leadership conducting the review.
