The US Border Patrol apprehended 8,383 migrants in April. This is an increase of 1,199 from the 7,184 apprehensions in March. March saw historic lows in arrests in that sector. Despite the monthly increase, apprehensions at the southwest border of the United States saw a 94.12% year-over-year drop in the first three months of Donald Trump's presidency. From February to April 2025, 23,912 foreigners were apprehended at the Mexican border. This is nearly 383,000 less than the 407,009 apprehensions during the same period in 2024. The CBP attributed the data to the Trump administration's "decisive and effective" enforcement of immigration law. They stated there have been "overwhelming improvements in border security". Restrictions on asylum have increased, making it nearly impossible for a foreigner to request asylum at the border.
