Serbia and France Strengthen Bilateral Relations Amidst Regional Challenges

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

Serbia and France have been enhancing their bilateral relations through strategic partnerships and collaborative efforts in various sectors. Recent discussions have focused on political cooperation, economic development, and regional stability.

In February 2025, Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Đurić met with French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot in Paris. The meeting underscored the traditional friendship between the two nations and highlighted the strategic partnership resulting from strong personal relations between Presidents Aleksandar Vučić and Emmanuel Macron. The ministers discussed Serbia's European integration process, emphasizing the importance of opening Negotiating Cluster 3, with France's support deemed crucial. They also addressed the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, advocating for dialogue and international community involvement to preserve peace and stability in the region.

Economic cooperation has been a significant aspect of the bilateral relationship. French companies have been involved in major infrastructure projects in Serbia, including the modernization of Belgrade's Nikola Tesla Airport and the development of the Belgrade Metro system. These investments reflect a deepening economic synergy and a shared commitment to progress.

Additionally, France has been a key supporter of Serbia's European integration efforts, providing assistance in implementing reforms and supporting Serbia's participation in international events. The collaboration in hosting the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Ministerial Meeting in Paris in February 2025 exemplifies the growing scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries.

These developments indicate a robust and evolving partnership between Serbia and France, characterized by mutual support and a shared vision for regional stability and European integration.
