The European Union has extended the temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees for another year. This decision allows Ukrainians to stay in the EU until March 2027 without going through asylum procedures.
The EU's interior ministers unanimously approved a proposal from the European Commission. This will provide continued protection for millions of Ukrainian refugees.
The Polish Interior Minister, Tomasz Siemoniak, stated that the EU will offer protection to Ukrainian refugees for another year. Poland currently holds the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU.
