Turkey Celebrates Africa Day, Reinforces Strategic Partnership

Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs commemorated "Africa Day" on May 25th, highlighting Turkey's strategic partnership with the African Union. The Ministry emphasized Turkey's commitment to strengthening relations with African nations. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Turkey's observer status within the African Union. Turkey aims to become a non-permanent member of the African Union in 2026. According to the Ministry, Turkey currently has 44 embassies in African countries. Ankara hosts 38 embassies of African nations. Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency provides educational support to approximately 22,000 students from the continent. Turkish Airlines operates flights to 64 destinations in 41 African countries. Turkish trade with Africa reached $36.7 billion in 2024. Turkey obtained the status of strategic partner of the African Union in 2008.
