EU Airports Implement Advanced Security Scanners to Enhance Passenger Experience

17:39, 29 July

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

European airports are adopting advanced security scanners to improve passenger experience by allowing larger liquid containers and electronic devices to remain in carry-on luggage during security checks. These next-generation scanners utilize high-resolution 3D imaging to detect potential threats, streamlining the screening process and reducing wait times.

However, the European Commission has imposed temporary restrictions on the use of these scanners, limiting liquid containers to 100 milliliters. This decision aims to address technical concerns regarding the scanners' ability to accurately screen larger containers. Airports that have already invested in this technology now face operational challenges and financial implications due to the reduced benefits of the scanners.

Industry stakeholders are calling for a clear roadmap to lift these restrictions and restore confidence in the EU certification system for aviation security equipment. In the meantime, travelers are advised to adhere to the 100-milliliter liquid limit when passing through security checkpoints.
