Geneva, May 28, 2025 - The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has released a report indicating a 70% probability that the global average temperature will surpass 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels between 2025 and 2029. This projection highlights the urgency for increased climate action.

Based on predictions from multiple international centers, the WMO's report suggests the planet will remain at near-record warming levels. There is an 80% chance that at least one year between 2025 and 2029 will be warmer than the warmest year on record (currently 2024), and an 86% chance that at least one year will exceed 1.5°C above the pre-industrial level.

The Arctic region is expected to continue warming at a rate exceeding the global average over the next five years. This continued warming poses significant risks to Arctic ecosystems and global climate patterns. The report emphasizes the increasing negative impacts on economies, daily lives, ecosystems, and the planet, underscoring the importance of climate monitoring and informed decision-making.
