Ireland has increased its annual funding to the World Health Organization (WHO) to €3.5 million, marking a 50% increase from the previous €2.3 million. This announcement was made by Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly at the 77th World Health Assembly in Geneva.

The increased contribution aims to support the WHO's efforts in sustainable financing, particularly for the 14th General Programme of Work (GPW14), which focuses on advancing health equity and resilience globally from 2025 to 2028. GPW14 aims to promote health and well-being for all, with the goal of increasing healthy life expectancy.

Ireland's commitment will be delivered through Core Voluntary Contributions (CVCs), allowing the WHO to allocate the funds based on their needs. The 78th World Health Assembly is being held in Geneva, Switzerland, from May 19–27, 2025, under the theme “One World for Health”.
