Brasilia, June 25, 2025 - Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), advocated for a dedicated financing mechanism and strengthened international collaboration to build climate-resilient cities.
AHY made the remarks at the BRICS Urbanization Forum's thematic session on 'Housing and Urban Agenda: Strategic Priorities' held at the Itamaraty Palace in Brasilia on Tuesday, June 23, 2025.
He highlighted the disparity in housing finance access for those most vulnerable to climate risks, emphasizing the need for targeted support to prevent marginalization. Indonesia is developing a platform to pool resources from central and local governments, as well as the private sector, to support climate-adaptive housing initiatives, particularly for vulnerable and low-income communities.
The platform will combine national, provincial, and private resources to support green renovations, microloans, inclusive zoning incentives, and the use of climate-resilient local building materials. AHY also stressed the importance of global partnerships, citing collaborative initiatives with the World Bank and Asian Development Bank (ADB) to support housing initiatives in Indonesia.
He invited the New Development Bank (NDB) to contribute to financing, experience exchange, and the establishment of resilient urban development standards in BRICS countries and their partners. AHY concluded that housing should be positioned as a foundation for inclusive growth and urban resilience, with Indonesia ready to collaborate with BRICS partners to share best practices and provide examples of building inclusive cities.
