The United Nations (UN) reported this week that the initial delivery of food and supplies to Gaza, following an 11-week blockade, faces significant logistical challenges due to ongoing military operations. Despite the arrival of aid trucks, distribution is slow.
Stephane Dujarric, Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, described the aid influx as insufficient to address the extensive humanitarian crisis. He emphasized that the situation in Gaza is dire, with persistent bombardments, blockade, and repeated displacement complicating relief efforts. The UN has dispatched essential items, including flour, medicines, and nutrition supplies, through the Kerem Shalom crossing.
Delays have arisen from Israeli requirements to offload and reload supplies. Fuel shortages have severely impacted water and sanitation services, potentially leading to complete shutdowns. The UN continues to work to streamline aid delivery and address the critical needs of the Gazan population.
