Europe's Path: From Post-War Division to a Call for Unity Amidst Global Tensions

Edited by: S Света

Following World War II, Europe, devastated by nationalism and totalitarian ideologies, faced division. Germany became the epicenter of global division, split between Western and Soviet influence. The continent was bisected by the Iron Curtain, separating democracy from communist regimes. From this destruction emerged the idea of a united Europe, based on cooperation. The CECA in 1951 and the CEE in 1957 laid the groundwork for the European Union. Today, new tensions risk reopening old wounds, with Russia challenging the international order and the US adopting an isolationist strategy. Amidst these challenges, Europe is called to defend its democratic identity through dialogue and unity. A strong, united, and autonomous Europe can contribute to global peace. This requires courage to believe that peace is built on justice, balance, and respect.
