Lusaka, Zambia - The LDC Future Forum convened policymakers, researchers, and private sector representatives to address sustainable development and resilience for Least Developed Countries (LDCs). The forum, which began on Monday, concentrates on enabling 44 LDCs to withstand systemic shocks, including climate change and global crises. Discussions align with Priority 5 of the Doha Programme of Action (DPoA), emphasizing climate change mitigation and resilience. The UN Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) noted LDCs' challenges in accessing international capital markets due to low creditworthiness. A High-level Dialogue will address financing strategies to bolster LDCs' resilience, emphasizing gender equality. The forum is organized by UN-OHRLLS with the Governments of Finland and Zambia, UNU-WIDER, OECD, and FERDI. Thematic sessions cover climate-smart agriculture, sustainable water and energy solutions, circular economy, and social protection programs. Private sector participation will explore business roles in driving a circular economy and promoting sustainability.
