Switzerland Pledges 100 Million Swiss Francs for Ukraine Reconstruction and Mine Clearing

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

Switzerland has committed approximately 100 million Swiss francs to support Ukraine's recovery and humanitarian demining efforts. This funding will back twelve reconstruction projects focused on rebuilding infrastructure, enhancing public transportation, strengthening healthcare, and advancing mine-clearing operations.

The announcement followed a meeting on August 28, 2025, in Bern between Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter and Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. Swiss companies are set to play a significant role in implementing these projects, with notable participants including Geberit for sanitary facilities, Divario for prefabricated housing, and Roche Diagnostics for a medical laboratory. This initiative aligns with Switzerland's broader, long-term strategy to support Ukraine, which includes a comprehensive program earmarking 5 billion Swiss francs over twelve years, initiated in April 2025. A previous allocation of 100 million Swiss francs was specifically designated for humanitarian demining in September 2023.

The contamination of landmines in Ukraine is among the most severe globally, making Swiss demining assistance crucial for civilian safety and the restoration of arable land. The Swiss government actively encourages private sector involvement, as part of a 1.5 billion Swiss franc allocation for 2025-2028, aiming to leverage Swiss expertise and innovation. The strong interest from Swiss businesses reflects confidence in Ukraine's recovery and economic potential, underscoring a shared vision for a resilient and self-sufficient Ukraine.
