Germany and Denmark Enhance Military Support for Ukraine

08:26, 03 August

Edited by: S Света

Germany and Denmark are significantly increasing their military support for Ukraine, focusing on the production of advanced weaponry. Germany is collaborating with Ukraine to produce long-range weapons, including drones and missiles, integrating German technology with the Ukrainian defense industry. Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced the commencement of joint production initiatives, highlighting the strategic importance of this partnership. In June 2025, a meeting between German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv solidified the details of this cooperation, with Pistorius emphasizing the value of combining German technological expertise with Ukraine's practical experience in weapons manufacturing. This collaboration includes German funding for the production of long-range weapon systems within Ukraine, with the initial deliveries planned for the coming months. Denmark has also stepped up its support, becoming the first NATO member to sign an agreement with Ukraine worth €67 million in July 2025. This agreement enables Danish arms companies to manufacture weapons and ammunition on Ukrainian soil, with the first production facilities slated to begin operations in September 2025. President Zelensky noted that the number of German defense industry companies operating in Ukraine is expected to increase from three to twenty in the near future. This concerted effort reflects a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of global security. The focus on local production not only strengthens Ukraine's defense capabilities but also fosters a sense of unity and shared responsibility among nations. The initiative is a testament to the power of collaboration, demonstrating how nations can come together to create a more secure and harmonious world. Furthermore, Germany has committed to providing €5 billion in funding for Ukraine to produce more long-range drones and missiles domestically. This financial commitment underscores the ongoing dedication to supporting Ukraine's defense capabilities. The Danish model, which delivered approximately €590 million of locally manufactured weapons to Ukraine in 2024, highlights the effectiveness of this approach. This strategy not only accelerates the delivery of vital equipment but also bolsters Ukraine's defense industry, fostering self-reliance and long-term stability.
