Former Peruvian President Ollanta Humala and his wife, Nadine Heredia, were sentenced to 15 years in prison on Tuesday for money laundering. The court found them guilty of receiving funds from the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht to finance Humala's 2006 and 2011 election campaigns. The court determined that Humala and Heredia received millions of dollars in illegal contributions from Odebrecht and the government of then-Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez. Humala will be transferred to a penitentiary in the coming hours. The brother of the former first lady, Ilán Heredia Alarcón, also received a 12-year prison sentence for the same crime. An order has been issued for his search and capture.
