On Saturday, February 12, the United States and Iran held "positive" and "constructive" talks in Oman, aiming to revive stalled negotiations on the nuclear deal. According to Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, these discussions were the first between Iran and the Trump administration. Both sides agreed to continue negotiations soon. These talks were facilitated by Oman, as desired by Iran, rather than directly, as preferred by former U.S. President Donald Trump. Araqchi stated that his delegation exchanged messages through Oman's Minister of Foreign Affairs.
