Madrid, April 9: Spain intends to strengthen its trade relations with China, according to Agriculture Minister Luis Planas. This decision comes despite a warning from the U.S. that closer ties with China would be detrimental.
Planas, currently in Ho Chi Minh City with Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, stated that Spain aims to expand its existing trade relations with China. Sanchez and Planas are scheduled to visit Beijing later this week to foster economic cooperation.
The U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent criticized the suggestion of closer alignment with China, cautioning against potential economic harm. However, Planas defended Spain's approach, emphasizing its commitment to a rules-based multilateral trade system within the EU framework.
