The Sudanese army has achieved gains in Khartoum, according to official spokesman Nabil Abdullah on Saturday, March 22, 2025. Armed forces have control over vital sites in the capital, including the Sudan Radio and Television Corporation, the National Museum of Sudan, Friendship Hall, and the Corinthia Hotel in central Khartoum. However, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are reportedly strengthening their positions in Darfur. Volker Perthes, the former UN envoy to Sudan, indicated that recent military gains by the Sudanese army might prompt the RSF to relocate resources to their areas of strength in the Darfur region. Perthes noted that the RSF maintains a significant presence in Darfur, potentially leading to intensified conflict in the region. Two years of fighting between the Sudanese army and the RSF has resulted in a severe humanitarian crisis, with thousands killed and millions displaced, according to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
