Kiel Institute Analysis: Europe Can Compensate for Potential US Aid Cut to Ukraine

A study by the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW Kiel) indicates that Europe is capable of offsetting a permanent cessation of US financial military assistance to Ukraine. The analysis suggests that European nations could compensate for the shortfall by increasing their annual bilateral aid to Ukraine from €44 billion ($48 billion) to €82 billion. Germany would need to increase its spending from €6 billion to at least €9 billion. The IfW Kiel proposes that Europe could procure military systems and ammunition comparable to US provisions through the international market. The institute also suggests direct weapon orders from Ukraine, particularly for drones, citing Ukraine's innovative industry in this sector.
