Joby Aviation executed the United Arab Emirates' first piloted, point-to-point air taxi flight on November 17, 2025, during the Dubai Airshow 2025. The electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft flew a 17-minute demonstration route from Joby's test facility in Margham to Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC). This successful crewed operation establishes Joby as the first company to conduct such a flight within the UAE, signaling progress toward shared airspace operations.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Joby Aviation successfully conduct the first crewed electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aerial taxi flight between Margham and Al Maktoum International Airport. RTA also announced 60% completion of the first aerial taxi

The demonstration is a key component of Dubai's strategy to develop a sustainable urban mobility hub. Commercial service launch is targeted for 2026, following an initial target of late 2025, under a partnership with Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Skyports Infrastructure. The planned service aims to offer a rapid transportation alternative characterized by zero operational emissions and reduced noise pollution compared to conventional aircraft.
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of the RTA, stated that the successful flight marks a milestone confirming Dubai's commitment to innovation and validating the operational framework for its aerial mobility system. A central element of this rollout involves specialized vertiports, for which Skyports Infrastructure holds the exclusive contract for design, construction, and operation. The initial facility near Dubai International Airport (DXB) is reportedly 60% complete, projected to handle approximately 42,000 landings annually and serve around 170,000 passengers.
Joby and its partners have confirmed three additional high-profile vertiport locations to complement the DXB site: Dubai Mall, Atlantis the Royal, and the American University of Dubai. These sites involve collaborations with major property developers, including Emaar Properties and Wasl Asset Management Group. The initial network of four vertiports is designed to integrate with Dubai's existing public transport system to enable intermodal travel.
Joby Aviation, based in Santa Cruz, California, is developing the S4 model, an all-electric eVTOL aircraft designed to carry one pilot and four passengers. The aircraft is engineered for speeds up to 200 miles per hour with a range between 100 and 150 miles per charge. Utilizing six tilt-propellers for vertical lift and transition to fixed-wing flight, the S4 is designed to be significantly quieter during takeoff and landing than a conventional helicopter. The partnership between Joby, RTA, and Skyports is governed by a six-year exclusive agreement for establishing these air taxi services within the Emirate.
