China Expands Low-Orbit Internet Network with New Satellite Launches

Edited by: Tetiana Martynovska 17

China has recently advanced its low-orbit internet network by launching multiple batches of satellites into orbit. These initiatives are part of the country's ongoing efforts to establish a comprehensive satellite internet constellation.

On July 27, 2025, a modified Long March-6 carrier rocket successfully launched a group of low Earth orbit satellites from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center. This marked the fifth batch of satellites intended to form the internet constellation. The launch was the 585th mission of the Long March series carrier rockets.

Following this, on July 30, 2025, a Long March-8A carrier rocket launched another group of low Earth orbit satellites from the Hainan International Commercial Aerospace Launch Center. This was the sixth batch of satellites contributing to the internet constellation, and the launch marked the 586th mission of the Long March series.

These launches are part of China's broader strategy to develop a satellite internet network, aiming to provide global internet coverage through a constellation of low Earth orbit satellites. The project is expected to include over 100 satellites, offering a new perspective on global communication.

As China continues to expand its satellite internet network, these developments highlight the country's commitment to enhancing global connectivity through advanced space technology.
