NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory provided an update on the Endurance autonomous rover at the 56th annual Lunar and Planetary Science Conference in Texas. The rover is being developed in response to the Planetary Science Decadal Survey, which prioritized exploring the lunar south pole.
Endurance is designed to traverse over 2,000 km of the South Pole-Aitken basin, collecting up to 100 kg of samples. The mission aims to prepare for future human missions to the Moon.
Artificial intelligence will be a key component, aiding in navigation and sample selection.
