SolMicroGrid's Energy-as-a-Service Program Aims to Boost Renewable Energy Adoption

Edited by: an_lymons vilart

SolMicroGrid has launched an innovative Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) Partner Program designed to accelerate the adoption of solar and microgrid projects. The program focuses on acquiring nearly completed solar and microgrid systems, providing developers with a quick exit and upfront capital. Simultaneously, it offers commercial and industrial customers discounted renewable power without the complexities of ownership.

Kirk Edelman, CEO of SolMicroGrid, emphasized the program's mutual benefits, stating that EaaS models create a win-win scenario for all involved. Project originators gain a swift exit and immediate payment, while host customers benefit from predictable energy savings and improved operational efficiency. SolMicroGrid assumes the long-term responsibilities for the operation, maintenance, and performance of these systems under EaaS agreements.

The initiative is structured to acquire a diverse range of systems, including rooftop solar, solar canopies, battery storage, and electric vehicle infrastructure. This allows businesses to integrate renewable energy seamlessly, shifting their energy expenditures from capital expenses (CapEx) to operational expenses (OpEx). This financial flexibility enables companies to concentrate on their core business operations while enjoying reduced energy costs, typically 10-15% lower than conventional utility tariffs.

Microgrids, in particular, enhance reliability and resilience, ensuring a continuous power supply even during grid disruptions. This is crucial for businesses dependent on uninterrupted operations. For example, Chick-fil-A has been piloting SolMicroGrid's solar-powered microgrid systems. Early data from these pilots indicate that the systems can cover 30% to 40% of a restaurant's energy needs, simultaneously reducing emissions and costs. The Stockton, California pilot alone reportedly reduced power costs by over 10% and integrated 38% clean energy into the restaurant's energy portfolio.

The EaaS model is experiencing significant growth across the energy sector, with market projections indicating substantial expansion. This model empowers businesses to embrace sustainability and achieve cost savings, positioning them as leaders in environmental responsibility. By managing the entire lifecycle of the energy system, SolMicroGrid provides a comprehensive, customer-focused solution that drives efficiency and cost-effectiveness for its commercial and industrial clients.
