Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav inaugurated the 'Bhoomi Pujan' ceremony for a Green Hydrogen Manufacturing Unit in Morena on August 31, 2025. This significant project, led by GH2 Solar Limited, marks a major step in India's clean energy transition and is expected to drive regional industrial development.
The facility, situated on seven acres, will produce green hydrogen and integrate advanced technologies, including hydrogen and battery energy storage systems. The project has secured a Production Linked Incentive (PLI) subsidy of INR 157.5 crore from SECI’s SIGHT program, with a total investment of approximately INR 400 crore. This initiative is projected to create over 300 direct employment opportunities in manufacturing, operations, and research, in addition to numerous indirect jobs.
Chief Minister Yadav highlighted the project's importance, stating, "This hydrogen unit is not just a plant; it is the foundation of a new industrial revolution, a new energy revolution, and a new Madhya Pradesh." The unit is a key part of a strategy to develop the Gwalior-Chambal region into a prominent industrial corridor. Since April 2024, the Madhya Pradesh government has allocated land to 220 industrial units in this region, attracting investments totaling INR 12,500 crore and creating over 21,000 jobs.
GH2 Solar Limited, in collaboration with South Korea's Advanced Hydrogen Energy Solutions (AHES) Ltd., plans to increase its electrolyzer production capacity to 500 MW by 2030 and establish a 3 GWh battery energy storage system assembly line. This partnership will introduce advanced alkaline electrolyzer technology to India, with future plans to include PEM and other hydrogen generation systems. This development is expected to transform Morena from an agriculture-centric district into a dynamic industrial center.
Nationally, India's National Green Hydrogen Mission aims for a production capacity of at least 5 million metric tonnes per annum by 2030, supported by an additional 125 GW of renewable energy capacity. This mission anticipates attracting over ₹8 lakh crore in investments and creating more than 6 lakh jobs, significantly contributing to decarbonization and reducing fossil fuel import dependence.
The GH2 Solar Limited project in Morena aligns with Madhya Pradesh's clean energy objectives and economic advancement goals, heralding a new era of sustainable industrialization.
