Date: June 10, 2025, Location: Kashiwazaki City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan. INPEX Corporation has begun commissioning its blue hydrogen and ammonia demonstration project.
The project uses natural gas from the Minami-Nagaoka Gas Field to produce hydrogen. CO2 emissions are captured and stored in the Higashi-Kashiwazaki Gas Field using CCUS technology.
Hydrogen will power local electricity generation. Ammonia will be produced via a low-temperature, low-pressure process and distributed to consumers. Demonstration operations are scheduled to begin in Fall 2025.
This project is part of INPEX Vision 2035, focusing on hydrogen, ammonia, and CCUS. It aims to be a model for hydrogen hub development and carbon storage, enhancing Japan's energy resilience.
