Baker Hughes has launched Hummingbird, an all-electric land cementing unit, marking a significant step towards sustainability in oil and gas operations. The primary driver for this innovation is to meet emissions goals for both Baker Hughes and its customers. The first prototype is function-tested and heading to the Middle East.

The all-electric system improves reliability by eliminating diesel engines and hydraulic motors, reducing downtime and maintenance costs. Peak power consumption is around one megawatt, easily sourced from the grid or adaptable to battery power. The unit is also quieter, with noise levels comparable to a lawn mower, enhancing safety for field personnel.

The performance of the all-electric unit is comparable to traditional diesel units, with similar pumping horsepower. Baker Hughes anticipates expanding the rollout of additional units based on market demand. The company expects the unit to be cost-competitive and is focused on proving the technology in the field.
