Ameren Illinois Breaks Ground on Peoria Solar Energy Center

16:14, 02 August

Edited by: an_lymons vilart

Ameren Illinois has initiated construction on the Peoria Solar Energy Center, a $20 million project aimed at enhancing the region's renewable energy capacity. The facility is expected to generate 2.5 megawatts of solar power, sufficient to supply electricity to approximately 420 homes and businesses. This development aligns with Illinois' goal of achieving 100% clean energy by 2050, as outlined in the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) signed in 2021.

The Peoria Solar Energy Center will feature nearly 5,000 solar panels equipped with sun-tracking technology to maximize energy capture throughout the day. Additionally, the facility will incorporate six battery modules for energy storage, enhancing grid reliability and supporting local economic development. This integrated approach ensures a steady and dependable power supply, even during periods of low solar generation.

Construction is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2026. The project is anticipated to create approximately 50 construction jobs, contributing to the local economy and generating tax revenue. This initiative reflects a broader shift towards sustainable energy solutions, aiming to build a more resilient and prosperous community through strategic investments in clean energy.
