Researchers have developed a quantum random number generator (QRNG) that is nearly 1000 times faster than existing models. This breakthrough promises enhanced data security across various sectors.
A joint team from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) achieved this milestone. The new QRNG passed rigorous randomness tests by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
Professor Boon Ooi of KAUST emphasized the significance for industries reliant on robust data security. Current random number generators are vulnerable due to design flaws, unlike QRNGs.
QRNGs leverage quantum mechanics to generate truly unpredictable random numbers. The device utilizes micro-LEDs, reducing energy consumption and enhancing portability.
Key features of the new QRNG include:
Unprecedented speed, almost 1000 times faster.
Compact size due to micro-LEDs.
Enhanced data security based on quantum mechanics.
Dr. Abdullah Almogbel from KACST highlighted the project's alignment with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030. It aims to establish global leadership in strategic sectors like quantum-enabled innovations.
