Perplexity Comet, the AI-Native Browser, Finally Lands on Android

Edited by: Veronika Radoslavskaya

Perplexity has brought its powerful AI-native browser, Comet, to the mobile ecosystem, starting with the long-awaited Android app. Following its successful debut on desktop and web months ago, this launch marks a crucial step in making truly autonomous browsing accessible to millions of mobile users worldwide.

Comet is designed to fundamentally change how users interact with the internet, transforming the browser from a passive search tool into an active, autonomous assistant. The core feature is the Comet Assistant—an intelligent agent that is available with a single tap and capable of executing complex tasks on the user's behalf. Unlike traditional chatbots, the Assistant uses expanded reasoning to plan and carry out multi-step actions. Importantly, this process is transparent: the AI always displays the steps it is taking, allowing the user to intervene and maintain control over the agent's workflow at any time.

The browser addresses the pain points of mobile information overload and "tab chaos" through its integrated user experience. The Voice Mode, a beloved feature from the core Perplexity app, is now available directly in the browser, allowing users to ask questions about currently open tabs simply by speaking, eliminating the need for constant fiddling and typing. Furthermore, its smart summarization feature allows Comet to instantly synthesize information gathered across multiple open tabs and search queries, saving users significant time on switching and data synthesis.

Comet further supports focused consumption by including a built-in advanced ad blocker, designed to eliminate digital distractions and provide a cleaner browsing experience. The company’s decision to launch the mobile version on Android first is an interesting approach, positioning the app for maximum integration with the device’s microphone and core operating system resources. Comet is available for free download on the Google Play store.
