Youtube browser gets picture-in-picture mode

Edited by: Veronika Nazarova

YouTube's browser version is finally getting a picture-in-picture mode to celebrate its 20th anniversary. This feature, long requested by users, allows videos to be watched in a floating window while using other tabs. While the official release date is unknown, there's a trick to activate it early. YouTube Premium members have enjoyed picture-in-picture on mobile devices for some time. Now, this functionality is extending to desktop browsers like Google Chrome. Users will no longer need separate monitors or cumbersome window arrangements to multitask while watching YouTube. When exiting a YouTube tab, a picture-in-picture window will automatically open. This allows users to write emails or browse the internet without interrupting their video viewing. The feature is currently in development, but can be tested via Chrome Canary, the beta version of Google Chrome, but it may not always work. Users can customize the picture-in-picture settings in their browser. Options include "Block" to disable the feature or "Ask" to grant permission each time.
