Starfish Neuroscience Brain Chip Set for Late 2025 Release

Edited by: Tetiana Pinchuk Pinchuk

Gabe Newell's Starfish Neuroscience is on track to launch its first brain chip in late 2025. The chip aims to read and stimulate neuronal activity, representing a significant advancement in brain-computer interfaces.

The microchip, measuring 2x4 mm, consumes 1.1 milliwatts during recording. It features 32 electrodes and uses wireless energy transfer. The chip is designed for onboard data processing and is built using a 55nm TSMC process.

Starfish is targeting multiple brain regions simultaneously, unlike Neuralink's single-region focus. This approach may offer new treatments for neurological disorders like Parkinson's disease. Starfish is also developing precision hyperthermia and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) devices.
