Belval, Luxembourg, is set to become a "smart city" testbed with a 3-million-euro pilot project.
The initiative aims to model urban infrastructure using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced technology.
The project, named 'Smartspires', will transform Belval into a connected testing ground for future cities.
The three-year project is led by a public-private consortium, including 5SKYE, Gcore, LIST, and Orange Luxembourg, and is co-funded by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) of the European Union.
At least three smart towers will be built, integrating 5G, AI, and IoT sensors.
These towers will support real-time, data-intensive applications to improve urban management and services.
The project aims to demonstrate how digital infrastructure and AI can provide safer, cleaner, and more efficient urban services.
The goal is to enhance lives, boost sustainability, and shape how cities across Europe can evolve in a smarter and more responsive way.
