Volvo Cars to Use Near-Zero Emission Recycled Steel from 2025

Edited by: Tetiana Pinchuk Pinchuk

Volvo Cars has partnered with Swedish steel company SSAB to supply near-zero emission recycled steel for vehicle production starting in 2025.

This collaboration makes Volvo Cars the first automaker to secure a supply of this low-impact steel for series production.

The new steel will be integrated into selected components of the upcoming all-electric Volvo EX60 SUV, as well as other models based on the next-generation SPA3 architecture.

Produced with nearly 100% recycled material, the SSAB steel significantly reduces CO2 emissions associated with the production process.

This initiative is part of Volvo Cars' efforts to reduce CO2 emissions across its supply chain, aligning with its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040.
