Great Wall Motor (GWM) has officially inaugurated its new production facility in Iracemápolis, São Paulo, marking its entry into the Brazilian automotive market. The ceremony on August 15, 2025, was attended by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and GWM President Wei Jianjun. The factory, acquired from Mercedes-Benz in 2021, will initially produce the Haval H6 SUV in hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants, and the Poer pickup truck, along with the Haval H9 with a 2.4 turbodiesel engine. The plant has an initial annual capacity of 30,000 units, with plans to increase this to 50,000 by 2028.
GWM's commitment to Brazil includes a R$10 billion investment by 2032, with R$4 billion allocated for the period up to 2026. This investment supports the employment of 700 individuals for the new plant. A further R$6 billion will be directed towards research, development, and an engineering center from 2027 to 2032. GWM's strategy aligns with Brazil's Mover program, which incentivizes sustainable technologies and local manufacturing. In July 2025, electrified vehicles accounted for 10.7% of Brazil's total monthly sales, a 56.3% increase compared to July 2024, indicating a dynamic shift in the automotive market. The South American automotive market is projected to grow significantly, with the EV sector as a primary driver.
