Free2move Launches Battery Swapping Pilot in Madrid with Ample

Edited by: Tetiana Pinchuk Pinchuk

Free2move is partnering with Ample to introduce battery swapping for its car-sharing fleet in Madrid. The pilot will use Fiat 500e vehicles with Ample's swappable battery packs, allowing a full 'recharge' in under five minutes. Madrid, a leader in EV adoption, is the location for this initiative, supporting its goal to cut emissions by 65% by 2030. The partnership aims to evaluate Ample's technology, starting with 40 vehicles and expanding to 100 by mid-2025 after successful homologation. Ample's technology addresses EV challenges by increasing vehicle availability and reducing charging times using modular, drop-in replacement batteries compatible with multiple Stellantis EVs. Drivers can swap batteries in five minutes via an app. Stellantis Ventures will showcase the system at MOVE 2025.
